FRM Exam Preparation Handbook

Hello everyone,

GARP has released a new handbook for the preparation of both Part I or Part II exam.

2 keys concepts :

1) GARP suggests a reading plan which divides the learning cursus into 20 sessions;
2) Each reading session groups content based on complementarity (or logical grouping), and sometimes reading session is "paired" with content across different topics (i.e. readings from Market Risk topic combined with a reading from Operational Risk topic).

What do you think about it ? Is it better to study according to the plan suggested by GARP ? Or, is it better to study "linearly" topic by topic (i.e. T5 Market Risk, then T6 Credit Risk, then T7 Operational Risk) ?

And you David ? Will your videos tutorial following the topic approach, or will follow the new plan suggested ?

Thanks !

Regards,

Hi trabala38

Thanks for posting this, frankly GARP did not give us (the training providers) a heads-up on this document so I did not know it was coming (if i had known, I would have told them to call it something different than a "handbook" b/c there is an FRM Handbook). I am just processing it now (there are two typos re Stock & Watson i notice on opening: QA - 1 is not assigned and QA - 3 should be in "probability and statistics")

Our 2012 videos are deploying topically, rather than AIM by AIM, but I do NOT think we will try to bend to these reading plans, I think we will stay with our plan to key off the AIMs but organize via topics ... my initial, tentative reaction to the reading plan CATEGORIES (e.g., "Portfolio Theory and Case Studies") is that they are insufficiently granular (too broad) to justify organizing the content along these lines. As a supporting justification, this is GARP version 1.0 of this particular document

But, don't get me wrong, plans are great, i have no problem with a reading plan. Thanks, David
