COVID-19 - Update from GARP Regarding May 2020 Exam

Entirely possible given that GARP would already have the facilities etc in place for this date.

COVID-19 - Update from GARP Regarding May 2020 Exam

Agree in that this time should be used to ensure in depth understanding of some of the more difficult topics, the only issue for me is that I need to "time" my run to the exam...with that date unknown it can be hard to do now.

COVID-19 - Update from GARP Regarding May 2020 Exam

This now begs another question, namely how are people responding to this, are people suspending their study and will resume when a date is made by GARP and secondly and realistically what amount of warning will GARP provide ie 2 months I suspect would be the bare minimum as it was 2 months until...

COVID-19 - Update from GARP Regarding May 2020 Exam

That was my point, ie that assume you pass Part 1 then the closest realistic date for Part 2 will be May 2021

COVID-19 - Update from GARP Regarding May 2020 Exam

Realistically, if the May exam is deferred until say June/July, then those attempting Part 1 will not have sufficient time to prepared for Part 2.

COVID-19 - Update from GARP Regarding May 2020 Exam

Official emails have been received that the May exam is being postponed to a later date, as I discussed in an earlier thread. Extremely frustrating by GARP, more so when those in HK had the November exams deferred until May 2020, for reasons that didn't make much sense at the time. So if GARP...

    COVID-19 Updates

Personally, I think that a decision will be made before then, as they will know by then if the exams can be held or not.

    COVID-19 Updates

Im inclined to agree I cant see the exam going ahead in May now...this is a massive inconvenience and if November is the next slot I would actually consider ditching the entire thing all together. The exam should have gone ahead last November. I just hope that if November is the next date that...

    COVID-19 Updates

    COVID-19 Updates

Agree, but for a number of people it would be extremely beneficial for Isolated? Hong Kong, let me guess you have never been to HK, the last thing that HK is isolated. In any case my comment was to mean that GARP made that decision with one day to go before the November 2019 exam so you may...

    COVID-19 Updates

Something else to remind everyone of the ambiguity of GARP...the HK exam last November, GARP were giving assurances that it would go ahead as planned on the Wednesday then only two days later it was cancelled.

    The Coupon Effect

David, mea culpa....I should have provided you with more background information, thankyou as well for the very thorough explanation. I have attached a screenshot of the source of my question, its not from Duration but from the preceding chapter with the highlighted section the comment in question.

    The Coupon Effect

I'm hoping that someone can explain this to me as to me it sounds very counter intuitive..."To understand these results, note that the yield to maturity is a complicated function of the spot rates applicable to each payment date. As the coupon increases, the average time until the bond holder...

    COVID-19 Updates

Well that will in all likelihood mean Asia, but its very hard getting any information out of GARP.

    COVID-19 Updates

Maybe playing devils advocate on this but surely GARP are considering that the May exam dates are at risk when considering the Coronavirus. Has anybody heard anything from GARP at all on this?

    IRS Comparative Advantage Arguments

I understand that the reasons for the existence of IRS comes down to two counterparties with one counterparty having a comparative advantage in the fixed vs floating markets versus another counterparty. However, what isnt clear to me is that how can one counterparty have an advantage in say the...

    YouTube T3-34: Put-call parity

Hi, for my understanding why is it that put-call parity only holds for European style options and not American style as well. Obviously it is to do with the early exercise that American style options have when compared to European style, but can you be more specific on this please, I would...

    FAQ Exam Learning Objectives definitions

Thankyou to both for your feedback, certainly the LO are extensive and if there was some clarification it would indeed help with the revision and areas on which to focus. The term apply is one that I missed. Thanks

    FAQ Exam Learning Objectives definitions
