    May 2012 Exam Results

Last year my part 1 results came in at 5:49 EST the day before they said they would release results. So if the same holds true this time, we should find out about that time today!

Level 2: Post what your remember here...

After looking through all the questions, I think I got probably 70 questions right... so hopefully that's good enough to pass! I think my lowest quartile might be in market risk (sigh, that's what I consider myself to focus on in my job the most....)

Level 2: Post what your remember here...

I chose the "share buyback" equivalent choice ( i think C) for the question on which would increase common equity tier 1 under basel III. As others have pointed out here, I think cross bank holdings are a deduction from capital and would not increase it. Another question I had was on the TRS...

Level 2: Post what your remember here...

on the LVAR question I chose the 90%, 5 day VAR as the question was which confidence level and holding period would have the highest liquidity adjustment (with a constant spread). There's no impact on the adjustment with constant spread for longer holding period or higher confidence level, so...

Level 2: Post what your remember here...

Whew, if that's the case then my changing the answers was a net zero as I changed two from wrong to right and two from right to wrong!

Level 2: Post what your remember here...

I'm mad at myself because I had so much time left that I went back and changed 3 or 4 answers from right to wrong. I think this was a dangerous exam to take for most of us here who frankly were probably overprepared and could read too much into some questions, many of which were poorly designed...

    Any valuable tips to share?

Good luck everyone! I am taking part 2 and stopped studying for it this evening after a final review of the notes. I think you either know the material by now or you don't. I'd rather go into the exam with a fresh mind and a few days rest than go in exhausted from cramming non-stop up until the...

    Securitized assets

Hi David, Do the FRM AIM's this year require us to know how the different versions of Basel deal with the risk weightings/methodologies (i.e. RBA)/etc. used for securitized assets? If so, are there any links/notes that describe how Basel deals with these assets? I'm pretty confused at the...

Critical z-scores for bid-ask spread component of LVAR

Hi David, In your notes you specifically mention that we should assume a one-tailed test for the z-score component when we are valuing the exogenous spread cost, however in the Schwesser practice exams they use a two tailed score. I assume that they are incorrect in using this? Has GARP...

    2012 FRM Calendar

Suzanne- is there any ballpark date range on when the FRM Part 2 practice exam will be ready? Just trying to coordinate my study plans for this last month and a half.... Thanks! -Lee

FRM Part 2 vs. Part 1 time pressure

For those of you who have taken both parts, did you feel that Part 2 was easier to complete on time? I.e. you have 80 questions in Part 2 vs. 100 in Part 1, and more of them in Part 2 are conceptual in nature? Or are the 80 questions more difficult and time consuming in part 2 than the 100...

    2012 FRM Calendar

Hi David/Suzanne, Is there any general timeline for when new practice questions (i.e. any of the 10-50+ page files, not the shorter length questions that get posted to the forum) will be posted for any Part 2 chapters that are different/new from the 2011 part 2 exam? Or are the AIM's so...

    Basel readings

Hi David, If our interest (in Basel specifically) is solely for passing the exam, do you recommend reading the hundreds of pages of readings the FRM assigns or should your notes suffice? Does anyone know if past questions on the exam about BASEL have been more mathematical or conceptual in...

Bid/ask spread reflecting endogenous liquidity risks

Hi David, I'm working through the practice questions on Dowd Chapter 14, and on problem 7.4, why is it that answer C is true? I.e. how does the bid ask spread reflect endogenous liquidity risk? Is this because with some scenarios, like with level II quotes, you can not only see the bid ask...

    Tier 1 vs 2 vs 3

Hi David, I purchased FRM Part 2 from your site in early January. At the time, I think your older pricing structure was in place so I don't believe that I could have chosen between any tiers. Am I "grandfathered" in or will I need to upgrade to see new videos that come out (i.e. access...

    Exotic options

Hi David, I tried to create a new thread for my following question but the site wouldn't allow me to... I click "post new thread", entered my subject title but no box became available to enter a message. Is the system down or am I missing where to post a new topic? Anyways, my question is on...

    Hardest Topic in Part I

My guess is that would depend heavily on the person's background. I had a masters in ag. econ and did my thesis on cattle options so the material on commodities and options was pretty easy. I thought topics like bond duration and convexity and the nuances of the different VAR types were amongst...

When will the FRM product 2012 be available.

Hi David, Just so I'm clear... I can order the package for part 2 on your products page (that still says 2011 exam on it), and I will still have access to the Part 2 content when it is updated for the may 2012 exam? Thanks, Lee

    BionicTurtle Review

One additional area that I think would provide great value would be to have full-length BT practice exams. While the detail and difficulty of BT practice questions is superior, I think there is something missing from not having full length practice exams to prepare you for the experience of...
