Still waiting for 2013 FRM Part 2 core readings from GARP

GARP mentioned Part 2 readings will be out in early January but it is almost mid January already!

Hopefully they wouldn't delay too much publishing the readings otherwise it will be tough to consume all of these readings for the upcoming may exam.

In any case, I hope to see more activities in BT forum to heat up ... let's get this started already! :)

Yeah it's not a good look to be honest, but you could just read up on the individual sections/topics from the readings found on the 2013 AIMS.

How has BT's products been so far in teaching you p2? I'm going to be sitting both parts in May so I'm doing abit of both atm. I will be skipping the GARP books though, I won't have enough time to go through those extensively. Just Schweser Notes + BT questions/videos/spreadsheets etc should be more than enough. If not, I'll just read the individual chapters on material that I'm struggling with (Duration for example! )

Fun couple of months ahead.

-MaNi- For me, core readings were definitely helpful for Part 1. while BT product (especially the PQs) is the excellent way to prepare the FRM exam, I found that the core FRM RAW readings helped me to build the strong building blocks in many risk management concepts. I already purchased BT product + Jorion's book for the headstart for P2 but I can't afford to buy all individual books to prepare...

Ludwma - thank you for the link, it is very discouraging indeed. I might have to adjust some of my P2 FRM study schedule due to the delay... I have done most of the market risks so far, so maybe try to read the free readings in current issues first... I don't know :(

Hey, I just found this... http://www.garpdigitallibrary.org/display/frm_course_pack.asp, "2013 FRM Part II Books - Pre-Purchase NOW! To be shipped beginning the week of 1/28."

Beginning of 28? But why so late? This is strange because they have already all readings available.

FS

This is highly disappointing. I've been checking GARP's web site daily (including earlier today) since the beginning of the year and I thought they would be available any day now since it was stated they would be available in "early January". I guess I have no choice but to start working with Bionic Turtle's 2012 part 2 notes this weekend.

What's even more troubling is that this will also prevent David from preparing the 2013 notes and practice questions that many candidates rely on until the end of January.

You can try searching for the books in your local library, or a more academically heavy library. Also, Ebay is a good place for some cheap books, you can find a lot of recent university students/graduates wanting to get rid of them for a low price.

Has anyone tried to pre-purchase Part 2 books? it asked me to pay additional 100 'printing fee' on top of the intial cost ($295). Such fee does not exist in part 1 books. What's going on GARP?

Hi RiskNoob,

I pre-ordered the Part II books and was very disappointed in the $100 printing fee. It's quite ridiculous really. I may delay taking the exam until November because of the delay in the release of the material.

I'm enthusiastic about the content of the FRM program but it very much feels like this exam process is nothing but a money grab for GARP.

Thanks,
Robert

Robert,

I agree with you, FRM P2 topics are really interesting to me as well, and I definitely do not want to rush just to get pass P2 exam. I might have to delay taking the exam due to the late delivery of the core readings (as well as busy schedule in the full-time job...)

Also I hope there is something wrong in their accounting system... printing fee for P2 books just do not make any sense to me...

The $100 printing fee doesn't make any sense to me --- it's not as if we can get a digital version of the course pack. I'm holding off on ordering the materials until the 28th, in hopes of them correcting / clarifying what this fee is for.

...frankly, if i were to start studying for the exam now, I would opt for getting the textbooks, rather than ordering GARP's materials.

I tried and purchased the pre-order again and the printing fee is gone. If you have paid the extra $100 for the pre-order, you should send an inquiry to GARP for the money back... Hope this won't give you much trouble.

For those waiting for the GARP FRM pt II materials to ship --- they won't ship until "around Feb 15th", perhaps even after mid-Feb. :(

Looks like the studying schedule is getting compressed even further.

Schweser has enabled online access to their material - so far, only market risk is available (with a few videos) but its a start. Skipped the GARP readings for part 2, I can see I'm not missing much then lol

Thank you for the delay info,

This is very discouraging and GARP should consider some alternatives - either provide online-reading (individual chapters) who pre-purchased the part 2 core readings, or delaying the exam date this time (even though I don't think that's gonna happen).

:(

I asked GARP in facebook earlier today whether some online core readings are available for those who pre-purchased Part 2 books, and here is the response from GARP:

Thank you for your comment, and for your patience. In fact, we are planning to do as you suggest and provide some core readings for those who have purchased the Part II books. We are working on that right now, and will be contacting those individuals who have purchased the Part II books to get them the information.

Seems like GARP is in progress on this delay - Quote from the email received a couple of hours ago:

I received the same email. I can see those chapters "uploaded" in my GARP Digital Library account but I cannot manage to open the link or download them. I wrote to GARP last Friday to ask clarifications but so far I had no response. Did anybody manage to download the chapters from their Digital Library account?
Thank you

I had no problem viewing/downloading the chapters from Digital library account for chapters in week 4 and week 5. Make sure you have lizardlock installed properly in your PC to view PDF files... hope you are able to view the contents.
