2020 Exam Update from GARP (updated on a regular basis)

Does any body know if Garp will grant an extension of deadline (i mean "you need to pass frm part II before May/November 202X") for those who had their exam postponed several times due to COVID-19 restrictions?

I believe that it should be the minimum from their side, since this situation is neither depending on us nor on them. Because I find it a bit unfair compared to those people that completed their path before 2020. Taking the exam and failing is quite different form not having the opportunity to take it.

My brother is in the same situation. He had a lengthy and frustrating email exchange with garp. Short answer is no extension, although he did say that the person handling the case didnt seem well versed or didnt do enough. You should all email garp and get them to review the rules.

I'm registered for the Nov 21 exam in Toronto. I just reached Beanfield Centre and the rep let me know that remainder of 2020's events at the Exhibition Place are all cancelled due to COVID restrictions. The rep did not receive cancellation notices from GARP so she is unable to say for sure it is cancelled, but she did comment that as a policy they are not allowed to have >10 people inside per building.

Hi Everlyn,
Do you know on average how many candidates write in toronto? If its under 100, garp might be able to find alt locations

thanks.

Thanks Sjegathe,
Last time I wrote Part I in 2019, the room had >100 people and GARP booked 3 separate rooms in the UofT exam centre. I think I'm resigned to a 2021 exam now. Are you writing in Toronto too?

Yes i am registered to write in toronto. But if you are saying, it’s somewhat in 100’s then it’s possible to find alt locations. But if we are talking around 1000s then it’s impossible which is the case for Cfa exams, but i am thinking November will have more candidates than May given the assumption of cfa candidates taking a crack at frm. So we will haven’t to wait and see. I was surprised that exams in the west coast locations went ahead as planned this past weekend.I would love to hear what they have to say!

At this point, I think the only place where you can comfortably say you will write the exam is in China. :p

Anyone in Canada write over the weekend? Vancouver, Calgary? Ottawa??? How did everything go there?

Hello,
did anybody tried to change location where the exam was postponed?
I am taking the exam in Nov and would rather switch than postpone...
Is there maybe any offical statement from GARP concerning this issue?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for checking with exam centre.......Toronto will generally have >100 easily ( for CFA around 5000 appear so, >100 should be expected in toronto). In a closed room for 4 hrs with 100 or for that matter even 25 folks is a bit scary in a pandemic...that is the very reason why govt is imposing lockdowns, but if Garp finds a place well, so be it. I too have mentally moved my exam date to 2021. Cheers and Good Luck to all !

Hello @Justyna80

I moved your post to this thread that discusses postponements and deferments for the 2020 exams. GARP has not made an official statement regarding the deferral rules as far as I know, but we were told that any candidate who wants to defer needs to contact GARP directly. Their contact information is here: https://www.garp.org/#!/about/contact-us.

if GARP decides to postpone the exams in TOR then i believe the announcement should come in next week or so. They've announced the cancellations quite early for the Oct exams.

i hope they would let November candidates know asap if certain locations get postponed. For the October exam, some of their announcements only came in a few days before the exam.
I'm in NYC and i believe the max number of social gatherings is only still 50 people.. I wonder how much restrictions can get lifted within a month.

Thank you for your responses. I will sit in Frankfurt for exam. Now GARP splitted candidates in 2 groups as far as I could see.
I could go to Zürich, Munich, Warsaw, Amsterdam...
Not sure about other citiies in Germany, if there are exam centers. Maybe Berlin or Hamburg.. As for me, all of these would be possible...

Montreal restrictions extended for 1 more month - to November 23. When is the November exam? On the 21st?
Yes, it is scheduled Nov 21st. I'm sure GARP will begin announcing any November exams that will be postponed soon now that the October exam is finished.
